Draws make history

AMATEURS

TWO draws in the five games of Victorian Amateur Football Association premier football is likely to be a first according to Geoff Reilley, who writes the history column each week in the association's record.

Old Trinity and Old Scotch drew at Bulleen and De La Salle and St Bede's/Mentone drew at Waverley Park.

The association started in 1892 but it does not have a database of scores.

This Saturday, Collegians will host fellow undefeated side Old Carey, which is enjoying a positive start to its first Premier season.

The Lions will be without former Sandy full-forward Nick Sautner after he strained a tendon in his right knee before Easter. Sautner will join fellow key-forwards Nick Corp (wrist) and Jono Dixon (shoulder) with football-related injuries.

But Collegians' other target Harry Croft will be unavailable after he suffered severe concussion after a car crash in Sydney.

Beaumaris coach Jason Mifsud has called for a review of the promotion-relegation system.

''I would like to see some analysis as to how long sides stay in a grade and if this relates to today,'' Mifsud said.

Mifsud suggested a two-or-three year stint should be debated.

Mifsud also questioned the integrity of the recruiting of five AFL players, who do not have links to their VAFA clubs, this year.

But VAFA president Bruno Conti said: ''He's [Mifsud] an ex-AFL [St Kilda] guy. What's his link to Beaumaris?''
