GLENROY could yet be dragged back into the relegation picture in Bowls Victoria Saturday pennant after a costly loss to Sunbury in division 1 section 2 at the weekend.
Glenroy started the round seventh, 26 points above the drop zone, but lost 2-71 to 16-79 against last-placed Sunbury which had been winless this campaign before Saturday.
It means Glenroy (89 points) remains seventh but now has Keilor (74), Ivanhoe (74) and Sunbury (66) within striking distance heading into the last three rounds of the season.
While Glenroy's loss to Sunbury was an upset, the real shock of the round was Ivanhoe dragging itself into a position to survive the drop by rolling second-placed Richmond Union by a single shot, 15-79 to 3-78.
Glenroy is away at Ivanhoe this weekend and plays Lalor 2 (sixth) at home and MCC (first) away to end the season.
In division 2 section 2, Craigieburn was a weekend winner but couldn't make up any ground on ladder leader Flemington-Kensington.
Craigieb urn won 16-74 to 2-67 away at Essendon 3, but still trails Flemington-Kensington by 10 points on the ladder, 182 to 192.
Division rival Broadmeadows won 14-82 to 4-76 against Heidelberg Golf to improve to 136 points, good enough for sixth behind fifth-placed West Coburg (144) and fourth-placed Lalor 3 (147).
In division 3 section 1, Gladstone Park lost 0-51 to 18-100 against Altona Sports and remains seventh on the ladder as a result, well off finals pace and still a comfortable 27 points above the relegation zone.
In women's pennant, Glenroy's unbeaten streak has finally been broken after a 2-52 to 14-61 home defeat at the hands of Sunbury.
The reigning Tuesday pennant premier still comfortably leads the ladder with 176 points to second-placed Sunbury's 147, but now has a genuine threat to prepare for when finals arrive.
