A BARNSTORMING finish has seen Dyna Lachlan chase down shotgun starter Galba Jack to land the 2010 MTD Australian Cup at The Meadows on Saturday night.
The Andrea Dailly-trained dog trailed until the final turn before powering to a 2-and-a-half length victory to sniff out the $150,000 winner's check.
Running out of box one, Dyna Lachlan was uninhibited from start to finish and relished the rails run.
Galba Jack ($2) pounced out of box two to assume the lead for most of the 525-metre race, thus avoiding the scramble for position for the dogs in boxes three to eight.
However, the class of the in-form Dyna Lachlan - an Adelaide Cup winner - was evident as he ran to first place in 29.84 seconds to etch his name into the Australian greyhound racing history books.
Anakie-based owner Tom Dailly said: "He's a professional.
"He runs his best all the time.
"Tonight, when he got a clear run, he just showed what he can do."
Dailly spoke of Dyna Lachlan's unbelievable persistence in pursuit of the win.
"He's missed the kick a little bit and then he's done what he's supposed to do. He's a very hard chaser and he tries his guts out. I'm just rapt.
"He's a good boy."
Meanwhile, Drill 'em charged out of a central position to lead at the first turn of the Macro Meats Super Stayers final over 725 metres. Like a bolt from the blue from box four, Drill 'em ($4.80) raced away to win comfortably from inside hope Jarvis Bale ($2.60) by three lengths with Next Top Model ($2.10) claiming third.
Emotional handler Jan Cotterill felt her greyhound was primed from early in the week and was never in doubt at the first turn. "This week he's been good," she said. "He was really ready to go today."
