Olympic Games on her mind

03 Nov, 2009 04:00 AM
ELIZA Hynes, 17, pictured, is one of Maribyrnong College's top athletes.

The indoor and beach volleyball player has been at the school for one year after moving from Bendigo to Moonee Ponds for the opportunity.

Eliza hopes the program has put her on the path to the 2016 Olympics.

"I always wanted to make an Olympic sport," she says. "If you can play the sport you love and get paid for it, that's my dream."

She has already competed in the Youth Olympics and in the Philippines, Taiwan, Netherlands and Turkey.

Maribyrnong College has encouraged her to combine her sports training and year 11 schooling, as well as finding like-minded friends.

"If all else fails you have to have a backup," she says.

"It's good to have people around with a similar interest and lifestyle."

Eliza has been offered a scholarship to the Australian Institute of Sport in Adelaide next year.
