UPFIELD'S march towards promotion rolled on at the weekend with a 4-0 victory against Bundoora United in men's provisional league division 3 north-west.
A hat-trick to Hosam Al Kaisi sealed a dominant win for Upfield at Gibb Reserve in a result that takes the team four points clear at the top of the league.
Upfield's 44 points leads Northern Roosters on 40 in the other promotion place, while third-placed Darebin United has 38 points.
Helping Upfield's cause is a game in hand on Darebin, albeit against in-form fourth-placed team Watsonia Heights (31 points).
Al Kaisi scored the opening goal in the first half at the weekend before Adaay Kakoz doubled the advantage early in the second half.
Al Kaisi finished his hat-trick with the last two goals of the game as Upfield managed to produce a raft of scoring opportunities in spite of the pitch and howling wind.
"We've got to win three of our last five to get promoted and we'll keep pushing to win the league," Upfield's Wally Hanna said.
"We've only drawn two games and lost one and since beating Darebin the whole team has lifted, that was the turning point."
Northern Roosters' match against Brimbank Stallions was postponed, while Meadow Park drew 1-1 with Brunswick Zebras and Youth United hammered Keilor Wolves 6-1.
In state league division 3 north-west, Hume United was held 1-1 by lowly Lalor in a draw that further hurt the club's promotion chances.
