FFV - Meadow Park Eagles flying high

17 Apr, 2011 03:45 AM
Meadow Park Eagles are in full flight after a 3-2 win against Essendon Royals on Saturday sent it to the Eastern break with a perfect three-win from three record.

The early-season winning streak is only good enough for third however, with fellow perfect teams Brunswick Zebras and Heidelberg Stars leading the way on goal difference.

But a win in the absence of coach Evan Kourouklis, who is currently overseas, was a welcome one as the Eagles survived a Royals comeback from 2-0 down.

Goals to Adriano Minutoli (12th minute) and Daniel Magro in the first minute after half time had Meadow Park in the ascendancy before the Royals came back into the contest.

But a hand-ball decision sent Daniel Magro to the penalty spot where he duly converted on 66 minutes to score the match-winner.

‘‘It was very tight thereafter,’’ president Peter Kargas said.

‘‘The team has jelled better this year over any other, there’s more an emphasis on doing the team thing.

‘‘The coach and staff have a higher level of dedication this year.’’
