ESSENDON District Football League's under-15 side bounced back from a first-round loss to defeat the Northern Football League in the AFL junior metropolitan championships on the Queen's Birthday weekend.
After losing to Yarra Junior Football League in its first match, the EDFL won comfortably against the NFL at Coventry Oval, Diamond Creek, with a final score of 12.12 (84) to 8.11(57).
Doutta Stars' Fletcher Smith kicked three goals, with fellow
Stars player Joshua Blake best on ground.
The EDFL's under-14 sides weren't as lucky, both were defeated by the Eastern Football League in divisions 1 and 2 at Mt Waverley Reserve.
The division 1 side was able to stay with the EFL for the first half. But the EFL took control and ran out winners 13.11 (89) to 5.5 (35).
Ahmed Rabah of Hadfield was the best of the goalscorers with two, while Aberfeldie's Victor Carboni was the EDFL's best.
In division 2, the EDFL was never in the match and scored just one goal for the first half.
Despite adding to the scoreboard in the second half, the EFL was way too strong, winning 14.10 (94) to 5.3 (33).
Aberfeldie's Callum Moore kicked two goals for the EDFL.
The next match for the three EDFL sides is tomorrow against Dandenong & District Junior Football League.
