GREENVALE'S wagging tail posted a competitive score to leave Williamstown CYMS bowlers frustrated in Victorian Turf Cricket Association at the weekend.
The last-placed CYMS - already 12 points adrift of safety from relegation on the bottom of senior division -made early inroads into the Greenvale innings but could not stop a number of mid-size partnerships forming.
Greenvale ultimately batted to the 72nd over and was all out for 249.
But a score of almost 250 did not look likely at 4-99 or 7-173 as Greenvale lost regular wickets and had just two of its 10 batsmen in double figures pass 30.
Matthew Innes (47) and Glen Courts (52) were top scorers, while invaluable runs came from No.8 Matt Kent (20), No.9 Matt Bonello (24), and No.10 Jacob Thompson (28).
Williamstown CYMS faced two overs before stumps, finishing 0-0.
In North division, Westmeadows let Sunshine United off the hook as the home team at Selwyn Park faced its 80 overs and posted 9-203.
Westmeadows had Sunshine United 8-156 before giving up a 45-run partnership for the ninth wicket.
Tullamarine (225) took a late wicket to leave Keilor Park 1-0 in reply.
In North A1, Jacana's Sumnajana Fernando scored 95 as the visitors to Galvin Park made 8-295 against Werribee Centrals. Praneeth Jayasundera scored 48 and Ashley Bradford 46 for Jacana.
In North B1, Craigieburn's Brad Smith led the bowling with 3-42 as opponent West Coburg was bowled out for 141.
Craigieburn's chase got off to a bad start however, losing 2-21 off the last eight overs before stumps.
Greenvale will play a Twenty20 qualifying final against Airport West-St Christophers tonight from 5pm at Etzel Street Reserve.
Greenvale (91) defeated Old Essendon Grammarians (81) in an elimination final last Tuesday to set up the clash with its senior division rival.
