BROADMEADOWS made Balwyn's middle-order scramble but couldn't contain a wagging tail as the Falcons were set 256 to chase this weekend in Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association north-west first XI.
A middle-order slump of 3-14 had the Falcons on top when Balwyn fell to 5-106, only for the home team to steady at Balwyn Park and reach 256.
Broadmeadows will chase the runs this weekend, negating two overs before stumps and finishing 0-8.
Mitchell Streiff got Broadmeadows off to the perfect start when he bowled Balwyn's Benn Gordon for a duck to leave the hosts 1-2. Ben Rose (2-42) then captured his two wickets for the day and Geoff Turner two wickets as Balwyn stuttered to 5-106.
But Balwyn's Trent Thomson (73) dug in to bat with the lower order, putting on 49 for the sixth wicket with Andrew Walpole (32) and then 41 for the eighth wicket with Mitchell Carey (28).
The partnerships provided vital runs for Balwyn, with Thomson the last man out in the 77th over.
