GLADSTONE Park is hoping it can make it two championships for the year as it gets ready to enter the finals of the North West Cricket Association's George Luscombe Shield.
The team recently won the one-day competition for the fifth time in six years, and new captain-coach Craig Wallace is hoping that it is a sign of good things to come.
"We defeated the team that is second on the ladder (Pascoe Vale Central) after bowling them out for 145," Wallace said.
"We were 1-80 at one point, before reaching the target in the last over with six wickets down."
For Wallace, who moved from Merlynston Hadfield in the off-season, the match was a warm-up for their two clashes this week.
"They are a good side and it will be a tough match," Wallace said.
"Whoever wins this match will finish on top of the ladder at the end of the season."
While Wallace is new at the club, other players are using their grand final loss last year as added motivation.
"The guys were disappointed with last year's results and are using it
as motivation," Wallace said.
"They are hungry for success and while not overconfident, I'm confident we can play some good cricket."
