Lady Broncos lose series to Geelong

31 Aug, 2010 01:00 AM
HUME City's hopes of taking Geelong to a third and deciding game in the Big V women's championship grand final were shattered with a 20-point loss at the weekend.

The Cats owned The Arena in North Geelong and dominated the first half on the way to an 86-66 victory and 2-0 series win.

A 13-point advantage for Geelong at quarter-time was backed up by a 29-18 second quarter and 24-point advantage at the long break.

Kylie Morrissy's inspired shooting, 23 points at 62.5 per cent, and a 22-point, 19-rebound game from Candice Rogers gave Geelong control of the contest.

Hume City won the third quarter by four points and broke even in the final term, but had no comeback to Geelong's second quarter where the Cats shot at 59 per cent from the field while Hume City was at 36 per cent.

Kate Hogan was accurate for the Lady Broncos with 15 points and eight of

her 10 shots scoring, while Lisa Troyahn (13 points), Tenille Cann (12) and Samantha Rioli (11) all got into double figures.
