HUME City Broncos' Big V season was ended emphatically by a runaway Ringwood on Saturday as the championship outfit won its semi-final series 2-0.
However, the Lady Broncos advanced to the grand final on Saturday as they closed out a 2-0 series victory against Waverley.
The Broncos led Ringwood at quarter-time and were level at the long break but couldn't force a third and deciding game as the Hawks powered away 84-64.
Hume enjoyed a first-half lead but had it cancelled out as Ringwood levelled the scores at half-time before Hume shot just 29per cent in the third quarter to fall seven points off the pace.
Ringwood hit the scoreboard in the dying minutes of the final term to blow the margin out to 20 points. "Ringwood knuckle down and ground you out. Score and stop, score and stop," Broncos coach Norm Ackland said.
"We fatigued mentally and struggled to stay in the game. We played an outstanding first half and probably should have been in front at half-time."
Russell McIntosh scored 18 points and dragged in seven rebounds for Hume City, while Jermaine Maybank scored 16 points and Michael Petridis 13.
All three of Ringwood's go-to men shot better than 60 per cent from the field, with Kevin Ratzsch scoring 25 points, Luke McMillan 20 and Mark Whitehead 13. "Ringwood are the sort of team that win by big margins in the last five minutes of the game, they put teams away."
Ackland is contracted for next Big V season and will turn his focus to the review process and off-season.
The Lady Broncos will play Geelong in the grand final series after a 62-51 win against Waverley sealed a 2-0 series win in the semi-finals of women's championship. Hume City trailed by four points at quarter-time but turned the game with a 16-8 second quarter before running away with a 25-point final term.
