HUME City Broncos claimed a scalp from the higher rungs of the Big V Basketball men's championship after an emphatic 21-point beating of Waverley at the weekend.
The Broncos improved to fifth on the ladder with seven wins and 10 losses after the 98-77 win at Broadmeadows Basketball Stadium.
A 24-9 first quarter set up the victory before Hume City took a 50-25 lead into the long break.
Brad Bridgewater had a night out with 33 points and 11 rebounds to lead Hume City while Jermaine Maybank hit 21 points and five assists.
Russell McIntosh had 12 points and eight assists.
Hume City's women had earlier started the night's action with a seven-point win against Waverley. The 63-56 victory keeps the Lady Broncos second on the women's championship table with 10 wins and seven losses, two games ahead of third-placed Waverley but still three wins behind ladder leader Geelong.
Ana Marinovic scored 14 points and dragged down 12 rebounds for Hume City while Ellie McLean scored 12 and Samantha Rioli hit 10.
The win caps a good week for Hume City coach Brian Vaughns in which he was recognised as the Big V women's championship coach of the month for June. Hume City Broncos women's youth league team also picked up two awards for June with Rebecca Guglielmino recognised as player of the month and Karen Oldenhuis coach of the month.
The junior Lady Broncos were fourth on the women's youth league ladder heading into Sunday's match against Altona, played after the Hume Weekly went to print.
Hume City's women play Melbourne at Broadmeadows Basketball Stadium this Sunday at 1pm followed by the men against Melbourne at 3pm.
