THEY might not be huge fans of Vegemite, but that's not stopping a Cragieburn family of four from becoming Australian citizens this week.
The Winter family migrated to Australia from the United Kingdom four years ago.
"I can't say I like Vegemite, but that's not an issue," says Matthew Winter.
"Ever since we've been here we've actually wanted to become citizens, and now it's been four years, we want to become true Australians.
"We've lived in the Hume area since we migrated. We rented a place in Roxburgh Park for 12 months and then we bought a house in Craigieburn."
Mr Winter, his wife Alison, son Adam, 12, and daughter Calista, 10, will gain their citizenship at the Hume Council's Australia Day ceremony on Thursday.
The family will join about 100 other residents at the ceremony in Broadmeadows. Mr Winter said they were becoming citizens for their children.
"We actually want to give our children the best possible experience in Australia," he said.
"When it comes to university and employment it's the best option.
"We moved purely because of things like lifestyle and what the country had to offer. We had ambitions to run our own company and Australia provides a better environment to do that."
Mr Winter, who works in information technology in the city, said his family had adapted well to Melbourne.
"The kids think it's great, they've loved Australia ever since moving here," he said.
"They've made lots of friends at school and have no ambitions of going back to the UK.
"We like the environment, the weather, all those things really. I think Craigieburn is a wonderful environment."
