CRAIGIEBURN and Roxburgh Park residents have been told an army of volunteers will flood the area in a major fund-raising effort over the weekend of March 13-14.
The Craigieburn and District First Response Team Inc is hoping to raise $20,000.
The money is to be used to secure its own community ambulance education centre.
The Rotary Club of Craigieburn, Craigieburn fire brigade and Craigieburn and District diabetes support group will help in raising funds. Yuroke MP Liz Beattie will also help the team.
The CDFRT is made up of volunteers who work under the guidance of the Ambulance Service Victoria. It offers help in responding to potentially life-threatening, medical emergency calls and provides assistance to patients until the closest available ambulance arrives.
The team is 'on call' seven nights a week, every week of the year and responds to an average of 350 emergency callouts a year.
Team leader Casey Nunn hoped the community would support the team's fund-raising effort.
"This [centre] is of vital importance as it will allow us to throw open our doors and teach our community emergency first aid free of charge," Ms Nunn said.
"This will also allow our team to grow and, therefore, provide better service to the Craigieburn, Roxburgh Park and wider communities."
