Swap spells awareness

07 Sep, 2010 12:00 AM
TEACHERS at Kolbe Catholic College in Greenvale swapped their favourite books last week to help raise funds and awareness of indigenous literacy issues.

The Great Book Swap, which ran across 200 schools in Australia, took place all week at the college with teachers making donations to the Indigenous Literacy Project through the book exchange.

Project founder Suzy Wilson said the book swap was organised to improve literacy levels among indigenous children.

She said the project had supplied more than 35,000 books to 200 remote communities in the past 12 months.

College literacy co-ordinator Holly Dixon said she organised the swap to raise awareness of literacy issues in the community and to improve staff morale.
