Pipeline makes future greener for sport clubs

09 Mar, 2010 09:44 AM
CRAIGIEBURN Football and Cricket Club players will soon be able to compete on a greener DS Aitkin Reserve thanks to $100,000 funding for a water pipeline and irrigation project.

The project was announced by Sports Minister James Merlino last week.

"Local sporting clubs are at the heart of our communities and by taking important measures to help drought-proof and improve our facilities, we're encouraging even more people [to] get involved."

Mr Merlino said the new pipeline would get water from the adjacent Yarra Valley Water recycled water pipeline. It would help guarantee the natural turf required for local clubs and schools to host training, games, local events and competitions.

Yuroke MP Liz Beattie also announced a further $36,000 grant from the State Government's community facility funding program for exercise stations in Craigieburn.

"The exercise stations will be in the Craigieburn Gardens to complement walking and cycling paths, basketball half court, picnic shelter, play space, and the nearby Craigieburn Leisure Centre.

"The outdoor fitness equipment will be safe, durable and weather-resistant, providing a low-impact, high-quality workout for all users."
