New school for Craigieburn

13 Jan, 2009 04:00 AM
CRAIGIEBURN will have a new government school in 2011.

Craigieburn West Primary School is among 11 that will be built across Melbourne under the Victorian Government's $255million public-private partnership with the Axiom Education Victoria consortium.

Others to be built in the west are in Taylors Hill, Burnside Heights, Derrimut, Point Cook and Truganina.

Premier John Brumby said the schools were needed in high-growth areas.

"They need good community facilities and the heart of any growing community is its schools."

Craigieburn West Primary will have a long-day-care centre and community centre on site.

The consortium will design, build, finance and maintain the school for 25 years and the Government will remain responsible for curriculum and teaching.

"These new schools will have state-of-the-art facilities, reflecting the latest thinking in school design and sustainability," Mr Brumby said.

He said the public-private partnership would result in cost savings and create 1000 jobs in the building industry.
