ABOUT 500 angry protesters, including Hume landowners, held a rally on Tuesday to protest against the proposed growth tax and the urban growth boundary report.

Some of them later stormed a developers' luncheon attended by Planning Minister Justin Madden in Melbourne.

Cries of "axe the tax'' and "Madden must go'' rang out as the protesters voiced their anger at the rally over the proposed Growth Areas Infrastructure Contribution that will see Kalkallo and Craigieburn residents in the Urban Growth Boundary pay to the State Government between $85,000 and $95,000 per hectare if they sell their land.

Community group Taxed Out organised the rally when it found out that Mr Madden would host the $1500-a-head Progressive Business Association luncheon, believed to be a fundraiser for the Australian Labor Party.

I think it is absolutely shamfull that you can spend your whole working life paying off a property and when its finally worth something a greedy State Government can pass a law taking most of the value of your land off you with an imoral Tax. This country punishes the hard workers and wants everyone to bludge off the Government instead of work hard and be self sufficient in old age.
