HUME landowners last night attended the first of four public information sessions in the north-west about changes to the Growth Areas Infrastructure Contribution tax following the release of the draft legislation.
On October 16, the State Government reversed its controversial proposal to impose a tax of $95,000-a-hectare on landowners selling landincluded in the expanded urban growth boundary. The tax will now be charged to buyers wanting to develop the land, but they will have an option to defer payment until the
land is on-sold, sub-divided or developed.
The changes followed a community backlash on how the GAIC would apply to landholders in the growth areas.
Those who missed last night's Craigieburn meeting can attend similar sessions in Hoppers Crossing and Melton.
The first will be at the Wyndham Leisure and Events Centre, 80 Derrimut Road, Hoppers Crossing, from 7.30-10pm tonight.
The second will be at the Melton Senior Citizens Centre, McKenzie Street, Melton from 4-7pm on Thursday.
People can register to attend by calling 1800 090 789. People who cannot attend the sessions but would like to discuss the changes to GAIC should also call 1800 090 789.
The draft legislation is available for public comment, with the consultation period to close on Monday, November 2 at 5pm.
