THE Broadmeadows State Emergency Service is calling for more volunteers to join the Mahoneys Road unit.

As an added incentive, new recruits will get the benefit of the unit's new medium-rescue truck and 4WD.

Volunteer Omar Sayegh said the unit had responded to more than 300 call-outs since July 1.

"The last six weeks we have been inundated with calls due to strong winds and bad weather. The new trucks mean we've been better resourced to service the community."

The station covers an area between Broadmeadows in the north and Brunswick in the south and from South Morang to Mernda.

There are about 50 volunteers based at the Mahoneys Road station but new members are always welcome.

Details: www.ses.vic.gov.au or 1300VICSES. For assistance during a flood or storm, call 132 500.
