Hoons scourge of streets

07 Sep, 2010 01:00 AM
Are hoons taking over your streets? We would like to hear from you.

Hoons have become a scourge in Melbourne's northern, western and southern suburbs, where up to 400 cars gather on Monday and Wednesday nights, and some drivers drive dangerously, performing burnouts and fishtails.

In a swoop on a big hoon gathering in Foden Avenue, Campbellfield last week, police arrested two people.

In the crackdown called Operation Friction2, four vehicles were impounded, 52 people were issued with notices of unroadworthiness, and 72 other traffic offences were detected.

The Sheriff's Office recovered $119,736 in outstanding fines.
