Homework club just too popular

09 Mar, 2010 09:52 AM
A HOMEWORK club for senior primary students in Glenroy is so popular it needs more volunteers.

Anglicare Victoria's homework club is run between 3.30 and 5.30pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Victoria area manager Damian Mahony said there were fears some children would be left behind as the club might not be able to meet rising demand.

"Most parents are anxious to secure a place for their children who could benefit from extra tuition and homework help.

"The children come from a range of backgrounds and need assistance for different reasons. Some speak very little English at home while others simply find their homework too difficult."

The club helps children improve in numeracy and literacy while building confidence and self-esteem and improving attitudes to learning.

Participation is free. The club operates from upstairs in Wiseman House, Anglicare Glenroy, at 32 Widford Street. Volunteers have to complete a police check before joining the program.

Details: 93060000.
