TWO Hume youths will soon head to the Adelaide Fringe Festival to perform in the Victorian Youth Theatre production of the Roald Dahl classic The BFG.
Gladstone Park's Bertan Ozman, 17, and Craigieburn's James Howe, 11, from the Children's Performing Company of Australia, were chosen to perform lead roles in the show that finishes touring Melbourne this weekend.
Bertan, who has been with the VYT for three years, will play the role of 'Bloodbottler' the headmaster. James, at VYT for four years, plays the role of 'Childchewer', the head of the air force. "I've always loved the story of the BFG and this adaptation is really good," Bertan said.
"I was super-excited when I found out I got in."
James said he would love to perform in movies or on Broadway.
"My greatest challenge would be this performance because it's the biggest one I've done
. I usually spend 10 minutes a day doing line practice." The production is at the Adelaide Fringe Festival from March 9-13.
The BFG is on at Maroondah Secondary College on Saturday and at Cromwell Road Theatre, South Yarra, on Sunday. Cost: $13. Inquiries: 93841644.
