CULTURAL and religious diversity is a strong feature of Roxburgh College, so much so that students have held their own youth multifaith forum.
With a mixture of Christian, Muslim, Hindu and Buddhist students at their school, five year 10s undertook months of hard work and training to encourage tolerance of all the cultures.
Year 10 student Michelle said the aim of the venture was to "help the youth of our school achieve a greater appreciation for other faiths and cultures''.
"It has encouraged people to learn about other cultures ... we have found that all cultures have similarities.''
The first forum included students from years 9-12 and guest speakers from Anglican, Jewish, Islamic and indigenous backgrounds.
Aaron, the son of Lao Buddhists, said the forum would help shape attitudes in the classroom.
"It was important, as it taught us about other cultures and encouraged us to live in a more friendly environment.''
With Michelle and Aaron, students Wali, Lucinda and Kain organised the forum as part of the Voices of Young Australians: Uniting for Social Cohesion program at the Centre for Multicultural Youth Issues.
