Death shock grips street

14 Jul, 2009 04:00 AM
NEIGHBOURS say they are in shock after a suspicious death of a man in Craigieburn.

The body of the victim was found in the lounge room of a house in Moray Street about 11am last Wednesday after a workmate became concerned his friend had not come to work.

The identity of the deceased man is yet to be confirmed.

Homicide detectives, who closed off the street for several hours to examine the scene with forensic police, believe the man, aged in his late 20s, died from assault-related injuries.

Detective Acting Sergeant Jamie Ronke told the Hume Weekly there were signs of a struggle inside the house. "It appears he has been assaulted...there are signs of furniture being pushed around."

Detective Acting Sergeant Ronke said a motive was unclear and urged anyone with information to contact police.

Police had not formally identified the man at the time of going to press.

He is believed to have worked in a deliveries area.

A neighbour, who wished not to be named, said the incident was "a hell of a shock" but described the neighbourhood as generally peaceful.

Police have charged Lloyd Davis, 27, of Reservoir, with one count of murder. He appeared before the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Thursday. The case was adjourned and he was remanded in custody to appear again on October 29 for a committal mention.

Information to Crime Stoppers, 1800333000.
