OAKLANDS Hunt Club joint master Darren Green is ready for another tilt at the Joan Pearson Shield at this year's Royal Melbourne Show.
He is not disheartened that he's failed to win the prize in the past 21 years.
The Oaklands club, based in Greenvale, will compete in a number of horse-hunt events at the show.
And Green says it would be a big relief to finally land the shield, which is awarded to the hunt club that wins the Peter Ronald Hunt Club trio's event.
"We'll be performing in individual jumping events, but the trio's regarded as one of the most important events in the hunt season," Green said.
"I've come second eight times in 21 years so hopefully I get a bit of luck this year."
Green says he's putting in a lot of hard work to get the three horses from the Oaklands club ready for the show, which runs from September 18-24.
"It takes a bit of elbow grease to get them right, but it's all worth it in the end because the event is so much fun.
"The normal hunt season runs through the winter and it's great to end on a high with the show."
Green, who has been going to the show since he was a child, says it would be a sad day if the hunts racing event was ever removed from the show.
"The Melbourne Show has changed a lot, but I still enjoy competing in it and catching up with the other hunt club members over a few beers."
